چکیده

This paper proposes an analytical model for delayed reservation scheme, which can be exactly analyzed. By applying it to a server-based QoS management network, we can obtain the related blocking probability and the waiting time distribution of requests, and discuss its performance by means of numerical results. The numerical results show that the delayed scheme can improve the blocking probability by about two order of magnitude compared with the conventional reservation scheme even when a small acceptable waiting time (e.g. 20% of average flow duration). We can conclude that the delayed reservation scheme can lead to significant improvement in a server-based QoS management network performance.

Performance evaluation of delayed reservation schemes in server-based QoS management

The current Internet has a single class of service, i.e., best-effort service, whereas multimedia information is actually transmitted there. Recently, many researches focus on a mechanism to provide some quality of service (QoS) required for applications such as delay-sensitive ones. With such a mechanism, a real-time communication request will be sent to a server, such as a policy server, that...

Characterizing Reservation Management for Media Gateway Controller (Performance and Reliability)

In this paper, analysis and simulation of Media Gateway Controller (MEGACO) based COPS (Common Open Policy Server) which is a protocol defined in IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) to transport configuration requests and deliver the policies is presented. For this scenario, three queuing models include M/M/1, M/M/c and M/D/c were applied . Then, some of the key performance benchmarks look l...

RESOURCES RESERVATION IN A REACTIVE QoS SCHEME

User Services Assistant (USA) is a novel reactive QoS agent that provides facilities for managing user to user QoS in Internet environments. By being reactive, it overcomes the problems associated with QoS management schemes that have been proposed to date, such as the mapping of the QoS parameters to end system parameters, and pre-determining the optimum way of degrading/upgrading the QoS. How...

An Efficient QoS Scheme for Mobile Hosts

Mobile hosts utilize Mobile IP to retain connectivity while roaming in various networks, and acquire new IP addresses through the mechanisms Mobile IP supports. Today, one of the most demanding application requirements is QoS support. RSVP, the protocol implementation of the IETF Integrated Services Architecture, cannot handle hosts that change their IP addresses amidst a connection lifetime, a...
